The Lived Experience
Donna Dahl’s work was not built in theory.
It was shaped through lived experience, difficult transitions, and the deep understanding that leadership transformation begins internally long before it becomes visible externally.
After a serious motor vehicle accident, Donna faced a lengthy recovery that challenged not only her physical resilience, but her sense of direction and identity. During that period, she accepted an invitation to write an article for a business publication - a decision that would quietly alter the course of her life and work.
What followed surprised her.
After weeks of careful effort refining a single article, the publisher’s response came within minutes:
“Perfect.”
That moment became a turning point.
It led to the writing of her book, Lessons I Learned from the Tortoise, and eventually to the development of a leadership consulting practice that has now spanned more than two decades.
But more importantly, it revealed a truth that continues to shape Donna’s work today:
True empowerment is not
something given to leaders.
It is something leaders choose.
